There's a worrying trend emerging in the science of climate change... basically that the impacts may be being under-estimated.
The eminent grand-father of climate change, James Lovelock, has frequently said that the Earth is about to do a major flip into a hot state - purely based on what it's done in the historical record. He rejects computer climate models in favour of real-world observations.
Now this latest report from the Global Carbon Project suggests that 6 degrees Centigrade of warming may be on the cards unless we seriously make large and fast reductions. This is considerably more than the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) project, and it is very worrying. The Global Carbon Project comprises some extremely respected names in the business and so their views should be taken seriously.

What is particularly worrying is that the IPCC reports to, and is influenced by, all the world's governements. As a result their findings may have been massaged / watered down until they became sufficiently politically acceptable.
Unfortunately it is the IPCC projections which are influencing the forthcoming talks in Copenhagen. The concern is that the challenges may be several times larger than those currently being wrangled over.
Only time will tell.... but in the meantime it adds extra impetus to do everything you can to lower your own emissions as far as possible.
