Sir Nicholas Stern, author of the infamous Stern report speaks about the upcoming meeting of governments in Copenhagen next month.
It is no understatement that this is the most important meeting of world leaders ever. With global greenhouse gas concentration rising at a unprecedented rate, worldwide action is required now to plot a path of rapid reduction.
If politicians fail to agree a prompt timetable for reduction this year in Copenhagen, we are left with an even worse problem to deal with - as CO2 levels relentlessly continue to rise. Cuts are painful, but the sooner cuts are made the less painful they will be.
Essentially the world needs to peak its emissions in the next 5-10 years at the latest - and then drastically bring them down.
Individually we can take action within our own lives much sooner than that. Changing our energy habits within our homes, reducing the Carbon impact of our household electricity and getting better MPG cars are all highly positive steps we can take.
Like everything in climate change, the sooner you take action, the more Carbon is avoided. Keep asking yourself what additional things can you do today ?
